SeaWilding
Conference 2025
The Future of Our Oceans. Held from 23 to 25 October 2025 in Barcelona, it was the association's founding event and an official activity of the UN Decade of Ocean Science.

A dual format
The conference articulated two complementary components —a scientific-academic track and an open outreach track— demonstrating that it is possible to combine scientific rigour and mass communication in a single event.
It brought together researchers, policymakers, private and financial sector actors, communicators and citizens, across disciplines as diverse as oceanography, environmental law, the philosophy of science, ecological economics and science communication.
Two tracks, one event
Scientific-academic component
Held at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona: keynote talks on the state of the oceans, specialised workshops, networking sessions between researchers and the presentation of success stories in marine restoration and conservation.
Outreach component
In parallel, activities open to the public in Barcelona's public spaces: documentary screenings —including Ocean with David Attenborough—, talks by scientists and environmentalists, and spaces for dialogue on ocean governance aimed at young audiences.
SeaWilding 2025 impact
The first edition produced results that validate the association's transdisciplinary and consilient model.
- →Coverage in international specialist media on marine conservation and oceanography.
- →Collaboration agreements formalised with academic institutions, conservation organisations and financial sector actors.
- →Excellent evaluations, with particular appreciation of the consilient approach and the dual scientific-outreach structure.
Linked to Barcelona
The SeaWilding Conference is conceived as an annual benchmark event, permanently linked to Barcelona —designated by UNESCO as the seat of the Ocean Decade Collaborative Centre for the sustainable ocean economy.
